BOOTS OWNED AND WORN BY THE COWBOY ACTOR/STUNTMAN AT HIS PERSONAL APPEARANCES, WHERE HE WAS OFTEN ACCOMPANIED BY HIS WONDER HORSE, TARZAN [KEN MAYNARD]. Cowboy Boots, unsigned. Pair of hand-tooled black leather cowboy boots with red leather "flame" design. Owned and worn by the cowboy actor/stuntman at numerous personal appearances, where he was often accompanied by his "wonder horse", Tarzan. From the Robert Johnson Memorabilia Collection. Minor wear at upper foot portion and on heel, one-inch vertical scratch on leather above heel on left boot. Fine condition. Accompanied by Partly Printed DS: "Mickey Dawes" as President of the Western Music Association, 1p, 8x11. No place, 2001 December 28. Headed: "Affidavit of Identity/Letter of Authenticity/Original Pair of Cowboy Boots Worn by Ken Maynard". The letter, signed by the noted Western humorist and singing cowboy, states that these boots were obtained from Robert F. Slatzer, a longtime friend of Maynard and the director of Bigfoot, Maynard's final film. There are two photographs of Maynard and a photograph of the boots at the lower portion of the certificate. Slightly creased, diagonal creases at Maynard's b/w image. Fine condition. Western film star Ken Maynard (1895-1973), a former trick rider with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show and later Ringling Brothers, made his film debut in The Man Who Won (1923), and he would go on to appear in dozens of Westerns, including three "Trail Blazer" films with Hoot Gibson and Bob Steele. Maynard, film's first singing cowboy, showcased his riding skills on his horse, Tarzan, who was sometimes billed as "Tarzan the Wonder Horse". Maynard retired from films in 1944 before returning to the big screen in two films in 1970 and 1972. He was also a popular attraction at autograph shows. Two items.
