A set of samurai armor from the 2003 Tom Cruise movie The Last Samurai. The elaborate Japanese costumes and weapons were made by the legendary WETA workshop in New Zealand who were also responsible for the costumes on The Lord Of The Rings trilogy for which their design was Oscar nominated. This suit was used throughout the film during many of the battle sequences and during the preparations for battle by Katsumoto's (Ken Watanabe) villagers. The costume consists of outer armor made from durable vinyl and thick cotton straps which includes a 'do' (torso section, labeled "Yoni Koura"), two 'kote' (armored sleeves which are made from a rubber molded chain mail, labeled "Richard Cruz, #30"), and a pair of 'suneate' (shin guards). The shin guards are made from a durable vinyl which is then secured to a patch of thick cotton with matching straps. The costume also includes a dark blue cotton kimono undersuit (labeled: "Ken, S7 L3") and pants (size M), a pair of 'tabi' (fabric socks with double toe, size L), and a red sash belt. The entire costume also displays wear, including distressing, scratches, even small holes from where the actor was "shot" (which have been covered with painted tape to match the armor) from battle sequences (see photos). This costume is in good, production distressed condition. This item comes with a Prop Store Certificate of Authenticity.
